Active Duty Military machine - Title and Registration Procedures

These procedures apply to new vehicles, used vehicles, and to vehicles that are titled in your name in another state that you are titling in Alaska. Vehicles are defined as cars, trucks, utility vehicles, motor homes, motorcycles and trailers. These procedures do not apply to boats.

To be eligible for exemptions and processing, the active duty armed services member must be an owner or co-owner of the vehicle.

As a non-resident you are not required to transfer your title or registration to Alaska. Yous may retain the registration in the state yous are a resident of, co-ordinate to the Servicemembers Civil Relief Deed (SCRA) - fifty U.S.C. App. §§501-597b1

The Partitioning will proceed to renew registrations by post while you are active duty stationed outside of Alaska.

Be sure to go on your address current with the Division.  Address Alter

ALL ORIGINAL TITLE WORK MUST BE SUBMITTED IN PERSON OR BY Mail service TO:

This includes vehicles purchased through Dealerships or vehicles that are financed through out-of-state banks, credit unions or individual parties.

Annotation: Championship work mailed may take 6 to 8 weeks to process .

REQUIREMENTS FOR Title AND REGISTRATION

  • Application for Title & Registration  Must be completed in full, in ink.
    Enter the mailing and residence accost where you are currently stationed  in sections 3 and 4 of the awarding.  The residence accost MUST be a concrete location (street, milepost, building and room number, etc.)
    If you lot are making payments on the vehicle to a financial institution, business or private, you must enter their name and mailing accost in section 5.  Be sure this information matches the MCO or title.  The Alaska title will exist mailed direct to the lienholder, if applicable.
  • Original Title or Original Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin (MCO)
  • Go out & Earnings Argument(within ninety days) showing Alaska as the abode of tape.
  • Copy of your active duty armed services ID.
  • Odometer Reading signed by the seller and heir-apparent. Needed for motor vehicles under 12,000 pounds and less than 10 years erstwhile.  The current odometer reading must be on the previous championship or MCO and on the application.    If either the buyer or seller has not attested to the odometer reading, a separate Odometer Disclosure is required.
  • Vehicle Registration, if applicable.
  • Registration fees
    • Run across Registration and Tax Chart
    • Championship: $fifteen.00
    • Lien recording, if applicable: $15.00
  • Lienholder - The name and mailing accost is required if you are making payments on the vehicle.(Must be on awarding)If no lienholder on tape you demand to write "NONE"
  • Lien release if a lien is showing on the original championship or MCO and has been paid off but is not signed off, in ink, on the ownership document.  Statements with a "paid" postage are unacceptable.  A lien release is required when a title has a lienholder on it and yous are requesting an Alaska championship, regardless of whether the lien has been paid or not.  You may obtain a letter from the lienholder stating that the lien release is provisional on placing a new lien on the Alaska title.  The lien release letter must have the year, brand and the Vin number of the vehicle.
  • Notarized Power of Chaser (For all transactions when a person signed on behalf of the vehicle owner, including LEASED vehicles, using a ability of attorney.  Recommended for other transactions, only in instance there is a problem with the paperwork.)
  • Military aircraft documents or custom's documents (When last title or registration was from a location other than the U.s.a..) (Also run into Foreign Vehicles for more vehicle importation information)

REQUIREMENTS FOR REGISTRATION Merely (Original Title Held by Lienholder out of Alaska)

If you choose to obtain registration in Alaska, you may avoid paying the Motor Vehicle Registration Taxation.

In order to be exempt, submit the post-obit with your renewal:

  • Electric current (within 90 days) LES showing your home of record
  • Vehicle Transaction Application (Form V1)  Must exist completed in full, in ink.
    Enter the mailing and residence address where you lot are currently stationed  in sections 3 and 4 of the application.  The residence address MUST be a concrete location (street, milepost, building and room number, etc.)
    If yous are making payments on the vehicle to a financial institution, business concern or individual, yous must enter their name and mailing address in section 5.  Be sure this information matches the MCO or title.  The Alaska title will be mailed directly to the lienholder, if applicable.
  • Original Registration  (Keep copy in vehicle if being driven.)  Note:  If your vehicle has non been registered in another state, a photocopy of the last issued title showing the vehicle in your name tin be used.
  • Leave & Earnings Statement(within ninety days) showing Alaska as the home of record.
  • Copy of your active duty military ID.
  • Lienholder - The proper name and mailing address is required if you are making payments on the vehicle. (Must be on application)
  • Fees (We would non accuse the championship or lien fee equally a title is not being issued.)
  • Registration fees
    Championship: $15.00  (Not required for a "registration only")
    Lien recording, if applicative: $15.00  (Not required for a "registration only" or when there is not a lienholder on the vehicle.)
  • Notarized Power of Attorney (For all transactions when a person signed on behalf of the vehicle owner, including LEASED vehicles, using a ability of attorney.  Recommended for other transactions, only in instance there is a problem with the paperwork.)

Annotation:  In order to be issued a "Registration Simply", the name of the active duty military person shown on the LES equally an Alaska resident MUST be listed equally an possessor on the vehicle registration.

REGISTRATION RENEWAL

Military Stationed Outside Alaska

If you are active duty military machine stationed outside of Alaska on military orders and maintain your Alaska residency, yous may renew your vehicle registration in Alaska and use your mailing and residence accost where you are stationed.

EXEMPTIONS

Alaska National Guard

An Alaska resident who is a current fellow member in the Alaska National Guard is entitled to one non-commercial free vehicle registration.

  • The Applicant must provide the relevant section (showing Name, SSN and Unit of measurement) of a vMPF (virtual War machine Personnel Flight) for Air National Guard member or PQR (Personnel Qualification Tape) for Army National Guard members dated within 30 days.
  • Valid Active Duty Armed services ID
  • If applying for an original championship and registration yous must also consummate Class V1.

Military Exemption (Residents of other States Stationed in Alaska)

If you lot are active duty military machine stationed in Alaska on military orders and maintain your residency in some other state , you may renew your vehicle registration in Alaska and use your mailing and residence address where you lot are stationed.

As a non-resident you are not required to transfer your title or registration to Alaska. Yous may retain the registration in the country y'all are a resident of, according to the Service members Civil Relief Human action (SCRA) - 50 U.S.C. App. §§501-597b1

Choosing to register in Alaska

If you choose to obtain registration in Alaska, you may avoid paying the Motor Vehicle Registration Tax.

In order to be exempt, submit the following with your renewal:

  • Electric current (inside 90 days) LES showing your home of record
  • Vehicle Transaction Awarding (Form V1)
  • May not take an Alaska CDL

Please note: you must submit a separate affidavit for each vehicle.

EMISSIONS PROGRAMS

ALASKA DOES Non REQUIRE PROOF OF COMPLIANCE WITH EMISSIONS PROGRAMS WHEN You lot PROVIDE AN OUT OF STATE RESIDENCE Address ON YOUR APPLICATION.  IF THERE IS AN EMISSIONS Plan WHERE You lot ARE STATIONED, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO Assure YOU ARE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THEIR RULES AND REGULATIONS.

The Division will accept applications for a duplicate title by mail provided the concluding title issued was an Alaska title.  We volition also remove a lienholder by postal service provided there is no modify to the buying.   This request MUST be received from the customer and not a lienholder.

The Partition volition go along to renew registrations by mail while you are active duty, stationed outside of Alaska.  Be sure to go on your accost electric current with the Sectionalization.  Address Change

Additional LICENSE PLATE INFORMATION:

  • If y'all are interested in Veteran'south License Plates, please check the instructions on that folio and make a statement as to the type of plates requested, in the affirmation section of the application.
  • If you wish to obtain Personalized Plates, you must wait until the vehicle is registered in your proper name.
  • Transferring license plates to another vehicle.
  • If you sell your old vehicle to a person that is non an Alaska resident, you practice non need to return the license plates to Alaska.  You may go on them equally souvenirs, plough them in to a DMV where you lot are stationed, recycle them or destroy them.
